Administrative Committees

A three-tiered management structure in place to oversee the food security and nutrition related interventions, these are:

National Food Security and Nutrition Council (NFSNC):

comprised of (i) Second Vice President – chair person; (ii) Ministers from all Key Ministries; and (iii) Regional Commissioners. Key responsibilities of the NFSNC are (a) to oversee the effective implementation of the Food Security and Nutrition Policy and (b) ensuring accountability of Key Ministries in the implementation of the Act; and (d) deciding on behalf of the Government a crisis situation warranting Zanzibar Food Reserve release, and what level thereof. The Secretariat of the Council is headed by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Inter-Sectoral Steering Committee (ISSC)

: consist of the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources as the Chairperson, Principal Secretaries of all Key Ministries, representative from Zanzibar National Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ZNCCIA), representative of NGO and the Director of the Department of Food Security and Nutrition as a Secretary. The Steering Committee is responsible for provide technical guidance on the implementation and monitoring of the Food Security and Nutrition Policy make recommendations on the prospect of food security and nutrition interventions.

Food Security and Nutrition Department:

the Department is under the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources mandated to monitor food security situation in the country and provide overall coordination in the implementation of food security and nutrition interventions in Zanzibar.
